It's hard to believe that the song '1999' was popular 20 years ago as we turned the century milestone.  How time does fly!  Here we are in 2019 and the New Year is a good time to look back and ponder our successes, challenges, gained knowledge and new directions and bring our experience forward.

As a contractor for 28 years, my goal was to protect people's investments.  Damsel in Defense came into my life almost 5 years ago and I reflect on the fact that I transitioned from protecting people's investment to protecting people's lives.  I joined Damsel's mission the very day it was presented to me and never looked back.

Many of us are alone in our day.  I always felt this uneasiness about my safety and in all honesty didn't know there were tools available.  I was vigilant and aware of my surroundings but after joining Damsel my reality about safety took on a deeper meaning.

Many times women are interested in having me do a presentation for those in their personal and professional circle after they've attended one.  Life being what it is, the intent is put aside so doing blogs and sending out information to those I can reach is important,  I hope to inspire everyone to seriously consider their safety and the safety of those they love.  Criminals are hiding in plain sight.  All we have to do is watch the news and see the tragedies of people that didn't think it could happen to them.

I can't begin to tell you how much safer I feel today knowing I am empowered and can protect myself should I feel threatened.

I feel privileged to do safety presentations and demonstrate our tools.  Doing many types of events from people's homes, vendor events to the professional community, it's always fun to meet so many great people.  I can honestly say that almost 100% of the time a woman will be brave to tell her frightening story openly or approach me after my presentation.  It's more prevalent than the general population knows.  I carried my own guilt and shame, and in sharing my story, it inspires women to drop theirs and be whole.

I hope you'll consider hosting a safety presentation and invite those you love – family, friends and neighbors.  Simply by hosting one or referring me to business organizations you have joined Damsel's mission.  I am as near as the telephone as well as my website and of course online.  My motive is to keep you and those you love safe.

I wish you safety, health, success and lots of love!

The holidays, shopping, celebrating and traveling are here as we visit family and friends.

Some Damsel Tools cannot be taken on planes or other types of public transportation - unless they are in your luggage.

There are also some state regulations for Pepper Sprays and Stun Guns.

Many times I've had customers purchase a Pepper Spray or Kubaton and because it was on their person it was confiscated, not realizing that they qualify as a weapon.

Well - -  Damsel in Defense has a solution for a great Self Defense tool that you can take anywhere.

How about a "To Whom It May Concern Tactical Pen"?  We all carry a pen and like our other tools, it is just a matter of keeping it handy should you be in a frightening situation.

Take it on planes and other means of public transporation or a concert venue or ball game  - because it is disguised as a PEN but it's a Kubaton with a Flashlight and a DNA collector!

This is an awesome Self Defense tool not only for you but how about a great Christmas gift?  How about your college student or realtor?  How about being in a parking lot, a mall or other public place?

Predators hid in plain sight.  They don't have 'predator' stamped on their forehead right?  They walk among us.

Refuse to be a victim.

Protect not only you, but those you love!!

Vacation time is here whether you are staying at home, planning a road trip or camping, or going up up and away!

As you make your plans, discuss Situational Awareness with your family.  Remember, criminals hide in plain sight.  Police response is normally 7-11 minutes if you are home.  If you are away, it can take longer.  Consider having a non-lethal safety tool for that 'just in case' moment.

It is a good idea to not post vacation plans on social media including your family and friends.  Criminals absolutely LOVE to rob you while you are gone, and social media is one way they find out that you are not home.  Most smartphones and many digital cameras automatically attach the exact location where a photo was taken - and when you share it online, the geotag can give away your address and let criminals know that you are on vacation, which could make your home an easy target.

Staying at home to celebrate summer is a great way to relax and have family time - enjoying a picnic at the park or going to the beach.  Be mindful of who is around you; picnic areas, playgrounds, walking/bike paths and bathrooms.  All eyes on board is good practice.  If your child needs to use the bathroom, go with them.  Sex offenders hang out near and in public bathrooms looking for children whether they are girls or boys - and women too.

If your children have their own summer plans, have a 'safe word' that you agree on and keep it private between you.  Should a stranger approach them and they ask what the safe word is, and the person does not know it, run and get help!

You might be going on a road trip or camping.  While traveling be cautious at rest stops.  Practice safety in numbers going to the restroom if possible.  Check out the other cars; i.e. someone sitting there just watching, especially if you are in an isolated area, or someone approaches you that makes you feel those red flags of potential danger.  Criminals have an abundance of tricks up their sleeve; car breakdown, out of gas, out of money, asking for a ride.  It is important to let your family and friends know where you are and check in frequently.  Pack an auto emergency and first aid kit, flashlight, wind-up radio, food and plenty of water.  Also consider packing an additional backpack in case you have an emergency in an unpopulated area and need to find help.  Is your spare tire pumped up and ready in case of a flat?

Up up and away?  When traveling we are easily distracted enjoying the experience.  This is what criminals are looking for.  Again, they hide in plain sight.  Keep your personal effects that you carry to the bare necessities.  Keep your jewelry at home.

Damsel in Defense has non-lethal safety tools for you no matter where your summer travels take you.  Consider what you might include to keep you and those you love safe as you make your plans and start packing.

Think about that 'what if' situation and consider your 'just in case' safety tool.

Better to have it and not need it right??

The Safety Advocate

April 4, 2018

I have sent out periodic Blogs about Damsel in Defense.  I hope you find them interesting.  My intent is to give you information and show you our Safety Tools, not bombard your inbox.

I think it is important to have a sense of who the person is behind the scene.  Like you, I get a multitude of Emails and Blogs, but do not really know who the person is.

There is a back story that is an important piece of my commitment to Damsel in Defense.  It was introduced to me four years ago.  I did not understand the attraction until a friend encouraged me to pursue this opportunity - that it would be my Legacy business.  It was she that helped me put my personal puzzle together and I am eternally grateful.  I and my children are survivors of many things - and so many of us share this incredibly powerful sisterhood and our stories.  This is my reason for being a Damsel Representative.

I was a Painting Contractor for 28 years, and was known as The Paintress.

I was called a Renegade and a Pioneer because back then, women did not work in the construction field.  Owning my business was fun for a long time, and I am a Journeyman Painter.  My Son was with me for 17 years, and when he and his wife moved to Idaho 6 years ago, it was like someone cut off my arms.  It has been described to me that their moving was my 'train wreck moment'.  It truly was.

I struggled to keep The Paintress afloat for a long time, my integrity and ethics the forefront of my reputation and business.  Finding someone to fill his very big shoes was impossible.  Damsel in Defense came into my life at a time when I needed a new direction.

I made the decision to close the door and move on.  Walking away was huge and painful.  I have only been working my Damsel business full time for 2 years.  You might say I am in my infancy but as I did with my painting business, I jumped in with both feet, learned fast and hard and have so much to share.  What Damsel has taught me, as well as so many awesome women I have presented Damsel to and have heard their stories, I know I made the right decision.

I recently branded myself as The Safety Advocate.  This came out of nowhere from whatever powers that be.  It is a powerful statement and more will be revealed to me in how to utilize it beside Damsel in Defense.

I will continue to send you occasional Blogs and eventually The Safety Advocate will be part of them.  Until then, it is Damsel in Defense,

My commitment is to share information about Safety and Awareness through

in-home Empower Hours and various presentations I give to women's groups and professional offices, just to name a few.  I am not just about selling you Safety Tools, although this is my livelihood.  Us women in particular are vulnerable in our world as it is today.  My objective is to keep you safe in your life, and to keep those you love safe, first through education.  I have a lot of information to share with you.  I would consider it a gift for you to host an in-home Empower Hour or refer me to a women's organization.  Simply by doing that, you are part of our mission.

Simple question - who do you know to help me share Damsel's mission and possibly save a life?  Be safe!

                                     Empower   Educate   Equip

Damsel has released awesome new products to keep you safe and protect your life and the lives of those you love!

Time is the gift in our lives and it slips through our fingers so quickly.  It seems like it was just January and everyone was busy recovering from the holiday hussle and bussle, and here we are again.  I hope you've had a year of good health, a loving family, awesome relationships both personally and professionally and business success.

For those of you that lost someone, or lost a pet, my deepest condolences.  I pray you find peace, resolution and healing.

New Year's resolutions are something we ponder; losing weight, committing to a healthier lifestyle, reconnecting with past relationships, nurturing new ones, and becoming better people.  Opening our hearts to those less fortunate is also something to consider.

We get caught up in our daily lives and so many things of real importance are seemingly ignored, though not intentionally.  We're all familiar with the phrase 'stop and smell the roses', but how many of us do?  Taking that simple moment of appreciation might be something to also consider in New Year.

My wish for you as we approach 2018 is good health, love and success in all you do.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year!!!
